Final Blog Post
When I first started off in this class I had little to no experience with anything to do with cameras. I had taken a similar video production class last year but knew that operating the two different types of cameras would be completely different. As the class moved on I learned more and more about many aspects of the camera. I learned about lighting, focus, exposure, and my picture taking skills furthers throughout the trimester.
Another aspect of the class that furthered my skills as a photographer was the Photoshop portion of the class. I learned more and more about Photoshop as each photo assignment came and went. I learned how important the editing process of a picture is and how it can really create a spectacular image. I also learned how editing a photo can take an ok photo into an amazing picture that really catches the eye. While knowing how to take a picture is very important, it is also important to know how to take a photo and enhance it with tools from Photoshop.

Photo 7: Still Life
For this assignment we had to create an image with its own world in it
This picture was pretty tough because setting up this world took time. I had to make sure no distractions were present in the background and that my subject was in focus.
Tutorial Edits
For this assignment we had to find interesting edits online that we could follow and make our own edits

This was by far the hardest assignment we have had. Some of these tutorials required many layers, layer masking and the videos were from like 3 years ago when PS wasn't updated. This was a cool assignment though because we got to create images that we thought were cool.
Photo 6: Shadow
For this assignment we had to find a subject that produced a nice looking shadow.
This was kind of hard due to the fact that our main subject had to be a shadow, so keeping distractions out of the picture was key. Enhancing the picture in photoshop really highlighted the shadows, luckily my lighting was good and nice lines of shadows were present.
Multiple Me
For this assignment we had to take a picture of a subject 5 times and then put together those 5 subjects into one photo in photoshop.
This assignment was pretty good. Taking the pictures and finding the right lighting and everything was the hardest part of the assignment, the photoshop was pretty easy.
Food
For this assignment we had to take a picture of something food related.
I found this assignment fairly easy because most food is appealing and easy to take pictures of. Proper lighting proved to be a bit of a challenge and the reflecting light off of the table was annoying.
School Context
For this assignment we had to take a picture of something on school campus and then edit images into this picture.
This assignment actually took a lot more time than I thought it would. Editing the photos into the main background and dealing with each layer in photoshop proved to be a challenge but all and all it was somewhat enjoyable.
Photo 4 Black and White
This assignment was easy due to the fact that if you make just about any photo black and white it makes it look way more stylized. For example, this staircase I took a picture of looks way better in black and white.
Panoramic
For this assignment we had to find a subject long enough to take 3 or 4 pictures of and then put them through photoshop to create a panoramic
I learned in this assignment how to put together three or more images in photoshop to create a panoramic. Also of course, how to take an actual panoramic.
Photo 3 Macro
For this assignment we had to find a subject and get as close to it as possible, revealing the finer details of the subject. Shining a new light on said subject.
I chose the picture I did because of the contrast in the photo. When a generally bright subject with positive connotation gets mixed with dark imagery, the product is very conflicting with a lot to say. Flowers are in general, portrayed in a very light manner and very colorful, but in this case the flower is backdropped against a very dark background and the contrast between light and dark is exaggerated with shadows being very prominent. I feel this picture says something different than every other picture taken of a flower, and this picture benefits for that.
Photoshop Car
In this assignment we were asked to retouch a photo of a car from the auto show. We had to crop the photo and take out unwanted aspects of the picture like the guy in the background and certain light reflections on the car.
Certain aspects of this project were easier than others. For example using the stamp and lasso tool in photoshop proved to be a bit of a challenge at times but overall this was a satisfying assignment. Seeing the finished product of my retouched car compared to the original was rewarding. I learned about the ins and outs of editing pictures, adjusting levels, and taking out unwanted subjects in a picture.
Photo 2 Nature
For this assignment we had to find an appealing aspect of nature and take a picture of it.
I found taking this picture to be much easier than the last photo (people) because there is so many pretty scenes of nature to capture. I like this photo so much due to the bright popping of the orange and red. I feel the colors really pop out of the picture especially with the more tame green background. I also feel like the main flower in the center of the screen is well in focus, bringing a viewers eyes to the middle of the screen.
Pop Art
This assignment involved taking a picture on photoshop, copy and pasting it four times and changing the color. Fairly simple, but still a lot of steps to follow for photoshop.
I enjoyed this assignment more than I thought I would. It was nice to get into photoshop for the first time and learn different mechanics of the app. The assignment was more simple than expected it to be, the directions were clear and easy to follow. The finished project ended up being pretty cool.
My Inspirations for Photo 2 Nature
These images are my inspiration for the type of pictures I will be taking of nature. Flowers or trees will most likely be the subjects for this assignment because I believe they are very easy to take pictures of.
Photo 1 People
This is my best photo because I feel like it is the most in focus and the best angle. i purposefully chose this low angle perspective to have my subject fill the frame along with the Saline logo at the bottom of the screen. I also feel like the light highlights the subjects face in a nice way leaving shadows in the lower part of his neck, making the subject's face pop out and seem more in focus.
